At Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy, our mission is threefold: Provide the Best Education.Produce Great Minds.Promote Well-Read Individuals.
In times past, only the wealthy and the free could afford a liberal arts education while slaves and servants got vocational training. At Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy, we want to open up the world of great literature, art, music, history, and language to all children in a safe, well-structured Christian environment. A liberal arts education should not be limited to the rich. Our mission is to provide the best education for your child. At Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy, we believe that a free and democratic society needs great minds...minds which have been introduced to noble virtues and high ideals. We also believe education is not just about training children for the workplace, education is about cultivating an appreciation for the fine arts and understanding how everything fits together. Our mission is to produce great minds. The child who can read books, yet does not, is no better off than the child who cannot read at all. The faculty at Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy introduces children to the love of learning through early exposure to classic literature. Students are not merely taught the process of reading; they learn to love what Great Books communicate. Our mission is to promote well-read individuals. Accountability Every year students in grades K-8 at Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy take the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. The results become a type of "report card" for our school to identify strengths and weaknesses in our curriculum and teaching methods. Test results also help us monitor the progress of individual students from year to year. An important thing to note is that we do not require admissions testing prior to enrollment for our students, which means we do not accept only the brightest and the best students according to the world's standards. This is just another indication that the classical education model works for our students! Thanks be to God! Accreditation The School Board has been discussing the value of accreditation since the inception of the school. Accreditation gives parents the assurance that our school meets certain high educational standards as judged by an objective panel. It also gives the School Board and staff objective standards of excellence for which to strive. The accreditation process is lengthy and challenging. MLCA is an associate member of the ACCS, an established accrediting agency for Classical Christian schools. We are also involved with an organization called the Consortium of Classical Lutheran Education (CCLE), which is in the process of establishing its own accrediting agency for Classical Lutheran Schools.
